Zero setup — start the moment you have an idea
The hardest part of a new project is often just getting a working environment. mobileCoder removes that entirely. Open your browser, describe what you want, and start building.
Nothing to install
There is no toolchain to configure, no versions to reconcile, and no local environment to break. Everything runs in the cloud and shows up in your browser, so the same setup works on a laptop, a Chromebook, or a borrowed machine.
How it works, step by step
There is no local install because there is nothing running on your machine to install. When you open mobileCoder, your project’s code lives on the server and a sandboxed container is created for it. The agent edits files in that container and runs the app inside it; the browser just displays the code editor and the live preview of what that container is doing. Closing the tab and opening it again on a different computer puts you back in the same workspace, because none of it depended on your local machine in the first place.
A worked example: starting from nothing
Imagine sitting down at a borrowed laptop with nothing installed — no Node, no editor, no git. You open mobileCoder in the browser, describe a simple to-do list app, and within moments the agent has created the project, written the code, and started it running in its container. You click through the live preview, ask for a change, and see it applied. At no point did you run a terminal command or install a package on that laptop, because all of that happened in the container, not on the device in front of you.
Why this matters
- Beginners can start coding without a day lost to installation guides.
- Experienced developers can spin up a throwaway idea without polluting their machine.
- Anyone can pick up where they left off from any device, because the workspace lives in the cloud.
Bring your own keys
When your app needs a third-party service like payments or email, you add your own API keys in the Secrets panel. They are stored separately from your project files, so your credentials stay yours.
Limitations and what to expect
Zero setup means the environment is standardized and sandboxed, which is a trade-off. You cannot install arbitrary system-level software outside what the sandbox provides, and very unusual toolchains may not fit. The workspace also depends on the service being available — it is not a fully offline local environment. For most web app projects the standard environment covers what you need, but if your project needs a specific local setup, that is a real constraint worth knowing up front.
Tips
Because there is no environment to break, it costs nothing to start a fresh project just to try an idea — you are not committing disk space or configuration to it. If you are moving between devices, treat the workspace as the source of truth rather than trying to mirror it locally. And when a project needs a third-party service, add the key in the Secrets panel as soon as you know you need it, so the agent can wire it in cleanly from that point on.
