Build an internal business tool with AI
Internal tools rarely get built because the people who need them are not developers and the developers are busy. mobileCoder lets you describe the tool in plain language and have an AI agent build and run it in your browser.
What counts as an internal tool
An internal tool is any small app your team uses to get work done that a customer never sees. It usually reads or writes some data, shows it in a table or a chart, and lets a few people take an action. Common examples include:
- An admin dashboard that lists records and lets you edit or flag them
- A form that collects requests and stores each submission
- A CRUD screen over a spreadsheet or a small database table
- An approval queue where a manager marks items as done
- A simple reporting view that totals numbers and draws a chart
These do not need to be large. Most of the value comes from replacing a shared spreadsheet or a manual copy-and-paste routine with something a bit more structured.
How mobileCoder builds it
You open mobileCoder in your browser and write a description of what you want. The AI agent reads your request, writes the code for the app, and runs it right there so you can see a live preview. There is nothing to install and no environment to configure.
From there you work in short rounds. You look at the running app, tell the agent what is wrong or missing, and it edits the code and reloads. A typical first pass might be "build a page that lists support tickets from a table with columns for status, customer, and date, and let me change the status." You refine from the preview until it matches how your team actually works.
Connecting to your data and services
Most internal tools need to reach a real data source or an outside service. mobileCoder has a Secrets panel where you add your own API keys and tokens, so the app can call the services you already use instead of holding fake data. You bring the keys; the agent writes the code that uses them.
Because these keys are sensitive, treat the tool like any other software that touches company data. Start with a read-only key if the service offers one, confirm what the generated code sends and where, and widen access only once you trust the behavior.
Review the code before anyone relies on it
The agent generates real code, and generated code can be wrong. It may miss an edge case, mislabel a column, or handle an error poorly. mobileCoder shows you the code it wrote, so you or someone technical on your team can read it before the tool is used for real work.
A short checklist helps. Test the tool with a few real records, try to break it with empty or unexpected input, and check that any action which changes or deletes data asks for confirmation. Fixing these while the tool is small is far cheaper than after your team depends on it.
When an internal tool is worth building
Build one when a manual routine is repeated often enough that structure pays off, or when a shared spreadsheet has grown fragile and people keep overwriting each other. A focused tool that does one job well is more useful than a large one that tries to do everything.
Keep the first version small. Get one screen working end to end, let a couple of people use it, and add the next feature only once the first earns its keep. mobileCoder makes each round quick, so there is little cost to starting narrow.
It also helps to write down who owns the tool. Someone should be responsible for checking that it still works after the services it depends on change, for fixing it when a colleague reports something broken, and for retiring it when the routine it supports goes away. A small tool with a clear owner stays useful; an unowned one quietly rots until people stop trusting it and drift back to the spreadsheet.
